About James R.

James R. Marsh built his legal foundation at the University of Michigan. He earned a B.A. in 1983 and returned to Ann Arbor for his J.D., graduating in 1987. The Michigan education anchored a career that spans trial and appellate courts across the country.

After law school he established a practice that reaches beyond any single state. He holds admissions to a long list of federal circuits and high-level courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, and he is admitted in both New York and Michigan. The list of jurisdictions reflects steady work in appellate and federal litigation: 1st through 11th Circuits, multiple district courts and state bars.

Marsh is the founding partner of Marsh Law Office PLLC. As founding partner he manages the firm’s caseload and directs appellate strategy. He represents clients in federal appeals and in state court matters that present complex legal questions. He has prepared briefs and argued on issues that require careful parsing of precedent and procedural rules. His practice emphasizes written advocacy and courtroom presentation in higher courts.

He has maintained bar memberships in several key jurisdictions. He is a current member of the District of Columbia State Bar and the New York State Bar. Those memberships support multi-jurisdictional representation and allow him to accept appeals and cases that cross state lines.

Marsh has pursued continuing education relevant to client work. He completed "Understanding Trauma: Foundations" through the Trauma Research Foundation. That training has been applied to client interviews and case assessment, particularly where factual narratives and witness credibility play a role in litigation.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing records and briefs. He divides time between research, drafting appellate filings and courtroom appearances. The firm’s caseload includes appeals across the federal circuits, matters requiring Supreme Court practice familiarity, and cases that demand cross-jurisdiction coordination.

Outside of filings and arguments, he oversees the firm’s administrative functions and mentors younger lawyers at the firm. He maintains ties to Michigan through his education and professional contacts while practicing from his own firm. He currently handles appellate and federal litigation matters at Marsh Law Office PLLC.
