About James Peter
James Peter Lingl is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in both Wisconsin and California. He was admitted to the Wisconsin State Bar in 1975 and the California State Bar in 1977, holding. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Lingl is the principal at Lingl ADRS, a mediation and arbitration firm located in Camarillo, California. He has been practicing law for over 50 years, serving clients throughout California and Wisconsin.
Mr. Lingl earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1975. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at Rockhurst University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. He also studied at the Loyola University Center for Foreign Studies in 1967. In 2010, he completed a Master's degree in Conflict Resolution at California State University, Dominguez Hills. During his legal education, he received initial mediation training from the Pepperdine University Law School – Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution in conjunction with the Ventura Center for Dispute Settlement.
Mr. Lingl specializes in alternative dispute resolution, focusing on mediation and arbitration. He has conducted over 1,000 mediations and 100 arbitrations, handling cases in areas such as community associations, construction, contracts, employment, environmental issues, family businesses, insurance, land use, landlord-tenant disputes, non-profit organizations, partnerships, personal injury, premises liability, probate, product liability, professional fees, property damage, public policy, real estate, sexual harassment, title disputes, torts, trusts, estates, and wrongful death. His practice encompasses all stages of dispute resolution, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Lingl has served as a mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court and as an arbitrator for the Ventura County Superior Court. He has been a member of the Ventura Court's mediation panels since 1993 and served on the California Department of Insurance Panels from 2003 to 2010. He has represented clients in more than 200 alternative dispute resolution disputes. Prior to focusing on alternative dispute resolution, he led a law firm specializing in community association law, representing over 600 homeowner associations and more than 200 individual homeowners in disputes with their associations.
Mr. Lingl is an active member of the Southern California Mediation Association (SCMA) and the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR). He has served on the Board of Directors of the Ventura Center for Dispute Resolution (VCDS) from 2002 until 2015, was President of the Board from 2003 until 2008, and was again selected to lead the organization as its President for 2015. He is also a member of the Channel Island Chapter of the Community Associations Institute and an emeritus member of the California Legislative Action Committee. Mr. Lingl is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
