About James P.
James P. Lynch built a career out of courtroom work and public service. He began his undergraduate studies at Saint Joseph's University and earned a B.A. in 1972. He completed his legal education at Rutgers School of Law–Camden, receiving a J.D. in 1978. He joined the New Jersey State Bar that same year and later gained admission to practice in the Federal Circuit.
His early professional life was rooted in county prosecution. Lynch served as an assistant prosecutor in the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office beginning in 1982. He moved into supervisory roles over the next decade, taking the position of First Assistant Prosecutor in Gloucester County in 1994. Two years later he returned to Camden County to serve as First Assistant and, for a period, Acting Camden County Prosecutor. Those roles put him in charge of major criminal matters and day-to-day office management during a time of substantial caseloads.
Lynch transitioned to federal service in the mid-2000s. In 2006 he worked as an Assistant United States Lawyer in the Department of Justice’s U.S. Attorney’s Office. The position involved coordination with local and state authorities on prosecutions and appearances in federal court. It was a natural extension of his prosecutorial background, bringing county experience to bear on federal matters.
In 2012 he joined Helmer, Conley & Kasselman, P.A. as of counsel. The move shifted his practice toward private representation and advisory work while keeping ties to public-sector practice areas. At the firm he has worked on cases that require familiarity with both state and federal procedures. He maintains relationships across multiple firm locations in New Jersey, including offices in Bridgeton, Freehold, Hackensack, Somers Point, Turnersville, Vineland, Woodstown, Willingboro and the firm’s 519 office.
Across decades of public and private work, Lynch has handled a range of criminal prosecutions and prosecutorial administration issues and has regularly appeared in state and federal court. He is a long-standing member of the New Jersey Bar and practices under admissions to New Jersey and the Federal Circuit. He currently serves of counsel at Helmer, Conley & Kasselman, where he handles matters in state and federal courts and advises on criminal and prosecutorial issues.
