About James

James Ochs earned his J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1984 after completing a Bachelor of Science at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 1981. He moved from the classroom into practice at a time when regional courts and legal institutions were changing. The timing shaped the early years of his career.

He completed law school in the mid-1980s and then began practicing in the Midwest. His educational background is anchored in two Illinois institutions followed by legal training in Missouri. Those years provided the groundwork for a long career spanning both states where he is licensed to practice.

Admitted to practice in Missouri and Illinois, he has built his practice around the procedural and substantive rules of those jurisdictions. He maintains current membership in professional associations and participates in the civic and legal communities tied to the courts where he appears. He has worked with judges, opposing counsel and clients across municipal, county and state forums.

Over decades in practice, Ochs has handled a range of matters that required courtroom appearances, negotiations and written filings. He has represented clients in proceedings before state courts in both Missouri and Illinois. His work has involved the everyday motions and hearings that move cases forward, along with longer matters that require an extended commitment of time and resources.

Colleagues describe his approach as steady and pragmatic. He structures cases to respond to changes in law and fact. That practical approach informs how he evaluates risk for clients and how he frames arguments in filings and at hearings. He adapts strategy to the institutional differences between Illinois and Missouri courts.

He practices at Ochs & Klein Lawyers, P.C., where he continues to represent clients in matters arising in both states. He maintains an active practice in Missouri and Illinois and remains engaged in the professional networks that support his work. He currently practices at Ochs & Klein Lawyers, P.C., handling matters in Missouri and Illinois.
