James N. Dicks is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1988 and holds bar number 132990. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Dicks is the founder and principal attorney at jD LAW, a criminal defense firm located in Vista, California. He has been practicing law for over 30 years, serving clients throughout San Diego County and North County.
Mr. Dicks earned his Juris Doctor degree from Western State University College of Law in 1987. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at California State University, Long Beach, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977. During his time at Western State, he gained practical experience by working as a police officer and detective with the Los Angeles Police Department, where he served from 1977 to 1987.
Mr. Dicks concentrates his practice in the areas of criminal defense and personal injury law. He represents individuals in matters involving DUI offenses, drug crimes, domestic violence, and other criminal charges. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. He is a Board Certified Specialist in Criminal Law, a designation held by a select number of attorneys in California.
Throughout his career, Mr. Dicks has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of San Diego, the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, and the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as an associate at the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office from 1988 to 1990, where he tried numerous cases and obtained favorable results for his clients.
Mr. Dicks is an active member of several professional associations, including the National College of DUI Defense, the California DUI Lawyers Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, the San Diego County Bar Association, and the North County Bar Association. In his free time, he enjoys reading, running at the beach, listening to trial attorney podcasts, dancing, and traveling.
