About James

James Meyrat trained as an undergraduate at Hendrix College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1996. He went on to St. Mary's University School of Law and received his J.D. in 2001. Those years set the foundation for a career that has moved between public service and private practice.

Early in his career Meyrat served in the Cameron County District Attorney's Office. In 2007 he worked as an assistant district attorney, gaining trial experience and courtroom time. The role put him on the front lines of prosecutorial work and gave him a steady introduction to courtroom procedure and case preparation.

He entered private practice the following year. In 2008 he established the Law Office of James Meyrat. That step shifted his day-to-day work from public prosecution to representation of individual clients. Several years later, in 2013, he joined Joe Gamez Law as an associate lawyer, returning for a period to a firm setting and collaborating on cases alongside other attorneys.

Meyrat is admitted to practice in Texas and to the Federal Circuit. His background includes work in state criminal courts and matters that have required attention to federal filings and appellate procedure. That combination of prosecutorial experience and private practice has kept him engaged on both litigation strategy and client counseling.

Colleagues and former supervisors describe him as steady in the courtroom and pragmatic at the negotiating table. He has handled trials, drafted briefs, and argued motions. Those tasks recur across different roles and helped shape his practical approach to case development.

Outside the courtroom Meyrat remains involved in professional circles. He holds at least one active association membership. He has kept ties to his law school and undergrad roots, returning periodically for events and alumni activities.

Meyrat's path is steady rather than flashy. He has moved between roles to build hands-on experience in prosecution, private practice, and firm work. He continues to practice law in Texas and before the Federal Circuit and currently focuses his work on representing clients in Texas state courts and related federal matters.
