About James J.
James J. Lee trained at Brigham Young University. He earned a B.A. in Political Science in 2004. He stayed at BYU for law school and received his J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School in 2007.
His legal career began with internships that took him to different legal environments. In 2005 he worked at Kim & Chang. The next year he served as a legal intern in the Queens County District Lawyer’s office. After law school he spent 2007 as a senior law clerk in the Riverside, California, district lawyer’s office. Those early roles exposed him to prosecutorial practice and courtroom procedures.
In 2008 Lee joined Ford & Huff, LC as an associate. He remained there after earning bar membership and developing trial skills. He has been a member of the Utah State Bar since 2008. He also joined the Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Utah Association for Justice in 2009, and those memberships have continued.
Lee moved into trial work and later took a role at Liberty Law, PLLC as a trial lawyer. He has handled cases at the trial level and in state court settings. In 2016 he taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law. His teaching drew on practical courtroom experience and case preparation techniques.
Colleagues describe his courtroom manner as direct. He prepares evidence, handles witness examinations and argues motions. He has worked on criminal defense matters as well as civil claims. His early experience in prosecutors’ offices informs how he approaches case strategy from both sides of the aisle.
Day to day he combines trial practice with client advising. He takes a practical view of case timelines and procedural demands. He continues active membership in Utah bar organizations and participates in professional events around the state. He practices at Liberty Law, PLLC and handles criminal defense and civil litigation matters.
