About James F.
James F. White practices law in Illinois. He began his academic path at Indiana University–Bloomington, earning a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1986. He later earned a Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School. His legal education included practical experience as a law clerk at the firm Cary, Filter, White & Boland while he was in law school.
After law school he joined Cary, Filter, White & Boland as an associate in 1989. He remained at that firm through the 1990s and became a partner in 1996. In that period he handled matters typical of a small firm setting and built a practice that spanned transactional and litigation work. In 1996 he also moved into an in-house role as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Summit Homes, where he oversaw corporate legal functions, contract work and regulatory issues related to homebuilding operations.
In 2000 he returned to private practice as a lawyer with Dommermuth, Brestal, Cobine and West. Two years later he established his own firm and has served as firm principal since 2002 at the Law Office of James F. White, P.C. His career shows a mix of firm and corporate experience. That combination informs how he approaches client matters today.
Outside the office he has been active in community and civic organizations for many years. He is the founder and board president of Water Lily International, an Illinois not-for-profit clean water ministry, a role he has held since 2018. He founded the Sugar Grove Economic Development Corporation in 2003 and has continued board involvement there. He has also taken leadership roles in the Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce, serving as its president from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2010 to 2011.
Colleagues describe him as a practitioner who moves easily between transactional detail and the broader business context. His time as general counsel gave him hands-on experience with corporate governance, contract negotiation and regulatory compliance. His years in private practice involved counseling small businesses, handling real estate matters and representing clients in local disputes.
He manages his practice from the Law Office of James F. White, P.C., where he represents individuals and businesses in matters that reflect his background in corporate and real estate work. He currently concentrates his practice on business and real estate matters.
