About James
James Clifton began his legal path in Athens, where he completed dual undergraduate degrees at the University of Georgia, earning a B.S. in psychology and a B.A. in political science in 2003 after starting in 2000. He moved on to Florida Coastal School of Law and finished his Juris Doctor in 2008. Those academic years framed his early interest in law and public service.
His first recorded legal role came in 2008 as the managing lawyer for Georgia operations at Albertelli Law. That position put him into the practical side of litigation and client representation soon after law school. By 2010 he was operating The Clifton Law Office, LLC as managing lawyer, and a year later he took a partner role at Consumer Lawyer Services. His resume also includes runs for elected office: he was a candidate for the Georgia State Senate in 2014 and for the Georgia House of Representatives in 2016. Those campaigns extended his involvement in state-level civic matters and public policy discussions.
Clifton maintains a broad set of admissions. He is admitted to practice in Georgia and Florida, and holds admissions in California and Texas. He is also admitted in the District of Columbia and to federal courts, including the United States District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 2008 and serves on the Executive Council of its Young Lawyers Division. He has been a volunteer attorney with the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation since 2011. He is also commissioned as a notary public by the Fayette County Clerk of Court.
Throughout his career Clifton has worked in consumer-oriented practices and in litigated matters. He has experience handling cases that require appearances in state and federal courts and engaging with procedural and appellate questions. His time in different firms and in his own practice has included front-line work with clients and management of firm operations.
Colleagues describe him as someone who moves between courtroom tasks and office administration without losing sight of client needs. He has combined practice management with public-facing roles, including political candidacies and pro bono volunteer work. He currently practices from The Clifton Law Office, LLC and handles consumer law and general civil litigation matters.
