About James Christopher
James Christopher Munley built a legal life out of courtrooms and community boards. He pursued undergraduate studies at The Catholic University of America before earning his J.D. from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1994. Those years set the baseline for a career that has combined trial work, organizational leadership, and involvement in local institutions.
After law school he joined the ranks of practicing lawyers and eventually became part of Munley Law, where he is currently listed as a lawyer. Over the years he developed an emphasis on litigation and trial practice. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, allowing him to represent clients in both state and federal forums.
He has pursued formal training beyond the courtroom. Munley is a Board Certified Trial Specialist through the National Board of Trial Advocates, a credential that signals a concentrated practice in trial work. He also holds an Executive Education Certificate from Harvard University for The Ultimate in Trial Advocacy, a short, intensive program intended for lawyers who spend significant time trying cases.
His professional life extends into bar association activity and civic roles. He is a member of the Lackawanna and Luzerne County Bar Associations and participates in committees within the Lackawanna Bar Association, including its Fee Dispute, Nominating, and Golf Outing committees. He serves on the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice and holds memberships in both the Pennsylvania Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice. He has been involved with the Gerry Spence Regional Trial Lawyers College since 2002.
Community engagement has been a prominent thread. Munley founded ATLAS Lawyers in 2008 and remains connected to that organization. He has served as Vice Chairman of the Lackawanna County Multi-Purpose Stadium Authority and spent time as President of the Scranton Club in 2014. He sits on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Pennsylvania chapter of the Girl Scouts and is part of the Jeffrey M. Davis Scholarship Award Committee.
Those roles reflect an interest in institutional work as well as courtroom practice. He balances trial preparation and public involvement, then applies lessons from each to the other. At Munley Law he continues to represent clients in trials and related proceedings.
He currently practices at Munley Law, concentrating on trial advocacy and litigation in Pennsylvania and the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
