About James C.
James C. Knox earned his J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2009. He completed a legal education that combined classroom instruction with practical skills training. That year marked the formal start of his legal career, building on the foundation he established in law school.
After law school Knox gained admission to practice in multiple jurisdictions. He is admitted in New York and Massachusetts, and he is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Those admissions allow him to appear in state and federal courts across a wide geographic area. They also reflect a practice that spans both trial and appellate matters.
Knox has been a member of the American Bar Association since 2011. He has maintained that affiliation continuously. Membership in the ABA has given him access to continuing legal education and peer networks that support courtroom practice and appellate work.
Throughout his career Knox has handled matters that require navigation of differing procedural regimes. Being licensed in two states and a federal circuit means adapting to local rules and varying standards of review. Lawyers in similar positions often work on cases that move between state courts and federal appellate courts; Knox’s admissions position him to do that kind of work when the client’s needs require it.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing records and clear in written advocacy. He spends a significant portion of his time drafting briefs, preparing appellate records and arguing motions. When a case reaches the appellate level, the ability to present concise legal arguments and to manage the record becomes essential. Those are among the day-to-day demands that shape his practice.
Knox also values staying current on developments in procedural law and appellate precedent. He uses continuing education and professional networks to track changes that affect filings, briefing schedules and standards of review. That attention to process informs how he approaches case strategy and client communication.
He currently practices law and concentrates on matters in the jurisdictions where he is admitted: New York, Massachusetts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
