About James Blount
James Blount Griffin graduated from Gordon College in 1984 with a B.A. in Economics and History. He earned an M.A. in History from the University of Alabama in 1990 and completed his J.D. at Vanderbilt University Law School in 2001. Those academic stops shaped an interest in law grounded in historical context and practical analysis.
He began his legal career in Atlanta as an associate at Morris Manning & Martin, LLP in 2001. The following year he joined the Law Offices of Wm. Thomas Craig as an associate. After several years in private practice, he returned to firm work in 2011 as an associate at Bishop Colvin Johnson & Kent, LLC. In 2014 he established James B. Griffin, LLC and serves as its principal.
Griffin is admitted to practice in Alabama and Georgia. He has been active in bar work, serving as chairman of the Environmental Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia from 2010 to 2011. That role placed him among practitioners and regulators discussing statutory interpretation, permitting and enforcement trends in the region.
Over the course of his career Griffin has handled matters that intersect regulation and litigation. His background combines time at regional firms and his own small practice. Those experiences have involved administrative proceedings, permit review and compliance counseling for businesses and landowners. He has also worked on contested matters that required courtroom appearances and written advocacy before agencies.
Since founding James B. Griffin, LLC in 2014 he has run a lean practice that consults on environmental and regulatory questions and pursues contested cases when necessary. He represents clients on permitting and compliance matters, advises on administrative procedure and handles related commercial disputes. He maintains active practice in both Alabama and Georgia, representing clients in regulatory proceedings and litigation related to environmental law.
