About James A.
James A. Bach is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in California and Hawaii. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1980. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Bach is the founder and principal attorney at the Law Offices of James A. Bach, a firm specializing in immigration law, located in San Francisco, California. He has been practicing law for over four decades, serving clients throughout the United States.
Mr. Bach earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, in 1979. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975. During his time at Hastings, he developed a strong foundation in immigration law, which has been the focus of his legal career.
Mr. Bach concentrates his practice in the areas of immigration and nationality law. He represents both individuals and corporations in matters involving H-1B visas, labor certifications, EB-1 petitions, and a full range of employment- and family-based immigration solutions. His practice encompasses all stages of immigration proceedings, including initial case evaluation, preparation and filing of applications, responses to requests for evidence, and representation in hearings before administrative tribunals such as the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Throughout his career, Mr. Bach has handled cases in various federal courts, including the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also appeared before administrative bodies such as the Immigration Court, Board of Immigration Appeals, and the USCIS Administrative Appeals Office. Prior to founding his own firm, he led the Immigration Law Department at Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May (now Reed Smith), one of California's largest and most prestigious law firms.
Mr. Bach is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and has served as the moderator of its Legal Ethics forum. He was one of the first lawyers certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a Certified Specialist in Immigration and Nationality Law, a designation held by less than 8% of California immigration attorneys. He has been recognized with the highest A/V rating by Martindale-Hubbell for over a decade and is included in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. Additionally, he has been selected to Super Lawyers from 2015 to 2022 and holds an Avvo rating of 10. Mr. Bach has authored books such as "The HR Manager's Guide to Immigration Law" and "How to Secure Your H-1B Visa," and has lectured extensively on immigration law topics.
