About Jahan
Jahan Sagafi earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2001. He finished law school during a period of shifting legal debates and began building a practice grounded in litigation and public-interest work. His education provided a foundation in litigation theory and appellate practice, which he later paired with volunteer and organizational roles that sharpened his courtroom and policy skills.
Early in his professional life, Sagafi aligned his practice with causes judged in courts and in public forums. Over the years he has taken on roles that place him at the intersection of employment law, civil liberties, and consumer and civil-justice advocacy. Rather than confining himself to one lane, he has balanced litigation, organizational governance, and committee work. That mix has exposed him to trial preparation, appellate briefing, and the kinds of strategic decisions that shape bigger policy outcomes.
His memberships reflect the breadth of that work. He is active in the State Bar of California’s Litigation Section Executive Committee and belongs to the Section of Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association. He also holds memberships in the National Employment Law Association, the American Association for Justice, and Consumer Lawyers of California. At the Bar Association of San Francisco he serves on the Judicial Evaluations Committee and works as a Volunteer Lawyer and Fee Dispute Arbitrator. Those roles keep him engaged with peers, judges, and procedural issues that affect how cases move through the courts.
Sagafi has also been involved in nonprofit governance and civil liberties groups. He has been on the Board of Directors of Alliance for Justice since 2014 and sits on the Bay Area Lawyer Chapter Advisory Board for the American Constitution Society, a post he has held since 2014. Earlier in his career he held several leadership roles with the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California, including Chair of the Legal Committee, Vice Chair of the Board, and membership on the Executive Committee from 2009 to 2011. From 2012 to 2015 he served on the Board of Governors for Public Advocates Inc. These positions have given him experience in oversight, organizational strategy, and the kinds of policy discussions that reach beyond individual cases.
He is listed as a partner in private practice. His courtroom work, committee service, and board experience inform how he handles matters that touch on employment, civil rights, and consumer protection. He currently practices in California and focuses his work on litigation and advocacy arising from those areas.
