About Jacob V.
Jacob V. Hudnut began his academic path in political studies and went on to law school. He earned a B.S. in Politics from Montclair State University before taking his J.D. from Seton Hall University. Those foundations set the stage for a career that has moved between courtrooms, clerks chambers and private practice.
Early in his legal career Hudnut worked as a law clerk. In 2009 he was attached to the firm Blume Goldfaden, et al., and the following year he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Peter J. Vazquez, P.J.Cr., at the Superior Court of New Jersey Essex Vicinage. Those formative years gave him firsthand exposure to criminal procedure and the daily workings of a trial court.
In 2011 Hudnut established Hudnut Law, LLC and served as an owner and solo practitioner. He built a practice that emphasized trial work and hands-on representation. In 2013 he joined several professional organizations focused on criminal defense, taking seats in groups that include the Hudson County Bar Association Criminal Practice Committee, where he is listed as a trustee, as well as memberships in the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Records show further experience in private firms. In 2017 Hudnut served as a criminal defense lawyer at Spar & Bernstein, P.C. That role added a different context to his practice by placing him within a firm setting after years operating a solo practice. He has been active in the New York County Lawyers Association since 2016, maintaining contacts across the two-state region where he is licensed.
Hudnut is admitted to practice in both New Jersey and New York. His professional activity over the last decade centers on criminal defense, with steady involvement in trial preparation, courtroom advocacy and post-conviction matters. He has balanced solo practice responsibilities with participation in bar committees and defense organizations, which has kept him connected to developments in criminal law and practice standards.
Those who have followed his career will note the mix of clerkship experience, solo practice leadership and work inside a firm. That variety has produced a practice profile oriented toward litigation and trial work. As of 2026 Hudnut continues to practice criminal defense in New Jersey and New York, operating through Hudnut Law, LLC and engaging in court-side advocacy in both jurisdictions.
