About Jacob

Jacob Allen built an academic foundation before he entered the practice of law. He earned a B.A. in political science from the University of Colorado–Boulder, followed by an M.A. in educational psychology from the University of Texas–Austin. He completed his legal training with a J.D. from the University of Denver.

Those three degrees shape how he approaches problems. Political science trained him to parse institutional behavior and public policy. Educational psychology introduced him to research methods and the practical dynamics of learning environments. Law school then added doctrine and procedure. The combination gives him a habit of looking for the policy and human elements behind legal questions.

His early professional path emphasized applying that mixed background to practical legal work. He moved into practice after law school and took on matters that required both legal analysis and an understanding of organizational or educational contexts. Colleagues describe his courtroom style and written advocacy as concise. He prefers to reduce complex factual and regulatory issues to clear choices for clients.

At Kontnik Cohen LLC he represents clients in matters that often touch on institutional rules, governance, and compliance. He is comfortable handling disputes where policy, regulation, and everyday operations overlap. His training in educational psychology helps when cases involve educational institutions, learning accommodations, or administrative procedures. Likewise, his political science background informs work on public policy and regulatory questions.

Outside of casework, he has participated in continuing legal education and professional gatherings. Those activities keep him current on changes in administrative law and regulatory practice. He takes a methodical approach to litigation preparation and negotiation. He favors careful fact development and precise legal drafting over theatrical presentations.

Clients and peers say he is practical and direct in his communications. He sets clear expectations about timelines and potential outcomes. He also seeks to identify early settlement opportunities when they serve a client’s interests. He has continued to refine his practice around disputes that require both legal rigor and sensitivity to institutional dynamics.

He currently practices at Kontnik Cohen LLC, where he concentrates on legal work at the intersection of law and education.
