About Jack
Jack Atkins combined study of business and law at the University of Tennessee in the 1970s and early 1980s. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration in 1977 and a J.D. in 1981. That sequence of degrees left him equally comfortable with numbers, contracts and the practical demands of running a company.
He spent the first years of his legal career in private practice as an associate at the Law Office of Looney & Looney beginning in 1984. Two years later he struck out on his own and established the Law Office of R. Jack Atkins. That move to a solo practice allowed him to combine transactional work with courtroom representation when needed. In 1991 he founded Premier Homes of Crossville, Inc., and has served as its president and founder, giving him experience on the builder side of construction law.
Atkins’s professional memberships attest to long involvement in the housing industry and local civic life. He belonged to the National Association of Home Builders from 1995 through 2008, and he served as president of the Cumberland County Home Builders Association in 2002. He also serves on the board of Creative Compassion, Inc., an organization that lists him as a current board member.
His credential in alternative dispute resolution is specific to construction. He holds a certification in Construction Dispute Mediation & Arbitration from Construction Dispute Resolution Services, LLC. That training complements hands-on experience from running a homebuilding company and advising clients on construction contracts, liens, and related business matters.
Colleagues and clients see Atkins as someone who knows both sides of building projects: the contractual and the physical. He has represented property owners, builders and contractors in matters that touch on real estate, contract disputes and construction defects. He handles mediation and arbitration work in construction cases and provides counsel on business issues tied to development and homebuilding.
Based in Tennessee, Atkins has practiced law for decades and has maintained parallel involvement in the homebuilding industry. His work blends private practice and industry service, informed by legal training and practical business management. He continues to operate his law office and to advise clients on construction, real estate and business matters.
