About J. Ross

J. Ross Pepper earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi in 1986 and completed his law degree at the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1990. He entered the Tennessee legal community in the early 1990s after finishing law school and has remained active in the state's bar organizations since that time. The timing of his education and early bar membership places him among a generation of attorneys who began practicing in the post-1990 legal landscape of Tennessee.

He joined the Tennessee State Bar in 1990 and the following year founded his own firm, Pepper Law, PLC. That decision set the course for a practice that has operated under that firm name since 1991. Over the years his admissions expanded beyond state courts to include the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Those federal admissions reflect the kind of courtroom work that has occupied a substantial portion of his professional life.

Pepper's career combines private practice with organizational involvement. He has been listed as a member of the Nashville Bar Association since 2000, and he served as chairman of the Community Relations Committee of the Nashua Bar Association from 2012 to 2013. Since 2015 he has been on the executive committee of the Litigation Section of the Tennessee Bar Association. He also began serving on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee in 2015, a role he continues to hold. These positions indicate steady engagement in both professional and civic spheres over several decades.

Colleagues describe a lawyer comfortable in courtroom settings and federal filings. His admissions to multiple federal courts and the Sixth Circuit allow him to handle appeals and district-court matters as needed. Over time his practice has concentrated on litigated matters in Tennessee state courts and in the federal forums where he is admitted.

Pepper Law, PLC has been the base for his work since 1991. The firm name appears on filings in state and federal dockets where he has practiced. He continues to be active in bar sections and community boards while maintaining a courtroom practice. He currently practices litigation in state and federal courts at Pepper Law, PLC.
