J.R. Fruen earned his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2011. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, receiving a B.A. in European Studies and German in 1998, and he spent time studying political science and art history at the Università degli Studi di Padova through the UC Education Abroad Program in 2000. Those years abroad and in diverse academic settings shaped a practical approach to legal problems.
After law school, Fruen entered legal practice in California. He is a member of the California State Bar and maintains an active license to practice in the state.
