About Ingrid Borges

Ingrid Borges Perez started her professional life in classrooms before she ever set foot in a courtroom. She taught English in New York City public schools in 2008, an experience that shaped her early approach to communication and client service. A few years later she turned to the law, earning a B.A. from Hunter College in 2008 and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 2013.

Her legal training included internships that exposed her to different sides of New York practice. In 2011 she worked as a legal intern for Tishman Construction Corporation, and in 2012 she spent time at the New York State Liquidation Bureau. Those placements preceded a move into public defense work. In 2014 she joined The Legal Aid Society of New York as a criminal defense lawyer, representing clients charged with a range of offenses and learning courtroom practice from the ground up.

After several years in criminal defense, Perez shifted her practice toward immigration matters. She became a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association in 2018 and began work at Terra Immigration Partners in 2019 as an immigration lawyer. Her time there involved handling family-based petitions, removal defense, and other immigration applications for clients living in the New York area.

Perez has also taken on roles outside day-to-day client work. Since 2019 she has been part of the Lideres Board of LatinoJustice, participating in a network that addresses civil rights and immigration issues affecting Latino communities. That board service sits alongside her professional memberships and has informed the community-oriented perspective she brings to immigration cases.

In 2023 she founded IBP Immigration Law and relocated her practice into private practice. She serves as the firm’s lawyer and manages a caseload that reflects her experience in both criminal defense and immigration law. She is licensed to practice in New York and continues to base her work in the city, counseling individuals on visa petitions, deportation defense, and related immigration matters. Her current practice concentrates on immigration law at IBP Immigration Law in New York.
