About Ilya G.
Ilya G. Zlatkin earned his J.D. and an Intellectual Property Certificate from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2010. He also holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia, where he studied economics and foreign affairs. The combination of law and an undergraduate grounding in economics informs how he evaluates rights and transactions today.
After completing law school, Zlatkin built a practice that crosses both transactional and litigation lines. He is admitted to practice in Indiana, Illinois, and the District of Columbia, and he is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Those admissions enable him to pursue matters on behalf of clients in state and federal forums.
His work centers on intellectual property and entertainment-related matters. He handles licensing agreements, rights clearance, contract drafting and negotiation, and disputes that implicate copyrights and trademarks. He advises on the ownership and transfer of creative rights and on commercial arrangements that affect how content is produced and distributed.
On the litigation side, Zlatkin represents clients in disputes that can range from contract disagreements to claims over intellectual property ownership. He files and defends cases in federal court when necessary and manages pre-litigation problem solving aimed at avoiding formal proceedings. His approach tends to be practical: identify the legal issues, assess the commercial stakes, and seek a solution that aligns with the client’s objectives.
Zlatkin practices at Zlatkin Cann Entertainment. There he works with a mix of creators, production entities and businesses that operate in the entertainment space. His role at the firm involves counseling clients on day-to-day transactional needs as well as preparing and pursuing litigation where disagreements cannot be resolved outside of court.
Colleagues and clients have turned to him for guidance on negotiating deals, sorting out chain-of-title questions, and charting courses through licensing and distribution arrangements. He brings both a legal and an economic perspective to these tasks, which can help in structuring agreements and in assessing potential liabilities.
His practice focuses on entertainment and intellectual property matters.
