About Howard

Howard Berkson built his legal foundation in three distinct classrooms. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Washington, Seattle, before pursuing an M.A. in Labor and Industrial Relations at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He completed his legal training with a J.D. from the University of Tulsa.

Those academic stops explain the shape of his practice. The study of labor and industrial relations dovetails with a string of professional affiliations tied to employment and workplace issues. At the same time, memberships in local and state bar groups point to a broader courtroom and advisory role.

Berkson has been involved with Boston Avenue Law, PLLC since 2013, where he holds a managing membership. Colleagues describe him as steady and practical. He has been active in bar and civic organizations across Tulsa and Oklahoma, trading courtroom work for committee meetings when the job requires it.

His professional associations are numerous and persistent. He is a current member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Tulsa County Bar Association. He also belongs to the Tulsa Area Human Resources Association and the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Since 2014 he has been part of the Hudson-Hall-Wheaton American Inn of Court. He served as vice chair of the Bench and Bar Local Rules Subcommittee for the Tulsa County Bar Association from 2013 to 2014.

Recognition from peers has followed his practice. He was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers for five consecutive years, from 2016 through 2020. That accolade sits alongside a practice that mixes litigation, counseling and administrative work, particularly where workplace disputes and criminal defense questions intersect.

Berkson’s approach is pragmatic. He moves between negotiations, pretrial matters and courtroom hearings, depending on what a case demands. Clients find his background in labor relations useful when matters involve employers, unions or complex workplace rules. His engagement with criminal defense peers suggests he is comfortable handling cases that require trial experience as well as procedural knowledge.

He continues to work out of Tulsa while maintaining active participation in local legal groups. He currently practices at Boston Avenue Law, PLLC, where his practice centers on employment matters and criminal defense.
