About Henry D.
Henry D. Kass builds a practice around court work and client-centered advocacy. He is calm in court and direct in counsel. Colleagues describe him as steady; clients see him as practical.
Kass’s academic path began at the University of Iowa, where he earned a B.A. in Language and Linguistics in 1996. He spent a year studying at the University of Basque Country in San Sebastian, Spain in 1997. He returned to Iowa for law school and received a J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2001.
His early legal work was in public service. In 2000 he served as a prosecuting intern in the Johnson County Lawyer’s Office. The following year he joined the DuPage County State’s Lawyer’s Office as an assistant state’s lawyer. Those postings gave him courtroom exposure and steady trial experience at the start of his career.
After moving into private practice he joined Haskin & Corrigan, P.C. as an associate in 2005. By 2007 he had added teaching to his résumé, serving as an adjunct instructor of family law at the College of DuPage. In 2009 he became a partner at Mirabella, Kincaid, Frederick & Mirabella, LLC, where he continues to handle litigation and client matters.
Kass has served in roles that reflect an emphasis on family law and child advocacy. From 2007 through 2020 he held guardian ad litem certifications for minor children in divorce and parentage cases in the Domestic Relations Division, and for children in adoption cases and disabled adults in guardianship matters in the Chancery Division. He has been active in local and state bar groups for many years, including the DuPage County and Kane County bar associations, the Illinois State Bar Association and the Iowa State Bar Association. He is a fellow of the Illinois Bar Foundation (Silver) and a fellow of the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois.
Within the DuPage County Bar Association Kass has held committee and section leadership positions dating back to 2006, including chair and vice-chair roles in child advocacy and family law sections, and membership on the judiciary committee. That involvement has kept him engaged in local policy discussions and educational programs related to family and guardianship law.
Kass is admitted to practice in Illinois and Iowa and works on matters that include family law, guardianships, adoptions and related litigation. He maintains a trial practice and continues to participate in collaborative law and child advocacy matters in his current firm.
