About Heidi Taylor
Heidi Taylor Troxell built her academic foundation across two states before entering the legal profession. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in political science and history at the University of Florida, finishing in 2002 after beginning studies in 1999. She then returned to the University of Georgia to earn a Master of Social Work in 2006 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2007.
Her early legal career took her to Colorado. In 2007 she joined the Colorado Public Defender's Office as a Senior Deputy Public Defender. There she gained courtroom experience representing clients in criminal matters, handling arraignments, pretrial motions and trials. The role demanded steady judgment under pressure and frequent contact with judges, prosecutors and clients.
The combination of social work training and legal education shaped how she approached cases. Her social work background informed her intake interviews and client assessments. It also influenced her view of mitigation and post-conviction needs. That perspective carried over into her day-to-day work as a public defender, where understanding a client's background could affect case strategy.
Troxell later transitioned into private practice and now operates Troxell Law LLC. In private practice she continues to draw on her courtroom experience and familiarity with Colorado procedure. She has handled a range of criminal matters and counsels clients through each phase of a case, from initial charge through disposition.
Outside the courtroom she maintains professional ties. She holds membership in legal associations and remains engaged in the Colorado legal community. Colleagues describe her as pragmatic in the courtroom and thorough in preparation, traits that informed both her public defender work and her private practice.
She is based in Colorado and accepts matters through Troxell Law LLC. She currently focuses her practice on criminal defense and related litigation in Colorado courts.
