About Hector C
Hector C Perez built a legal career that stretches from federal tax counsel to prosecution in the Central District of California. He trained in Austin and moved quickly into government service. Over decades he has balanced courtroom work and advisory roles.
Perez attended The University of Texas School of Law beginning in 1969 and earned his J.D. in 1972. His law school years coincided with a period of change in federal tax policy and enforcement. The curriculum and mentors he encountered there set the stage for his early work in the Internal Revenue Service.
Shortly after graduation, Perez joined the Office of Regional Counsel at the Internal Revenue Service in 1972. As IRS counsel, he handled matters that required both technical tax knowledge and an ability to translate complex rules into enforceable positions. That role exposed him to audit disputes, collection actions and the administrative processes that underpin federal tax enforcement.
By 1977 Perez had moved to the United States Lawyer’s Office for the Central District of California, where he served as an Assistant United States Lawyer. In that capacity he prosecuted federal matters on behalf of the government and appeared in federal court. The switch from advisory work at the IRS to prosecutorial duties broadened his courtroom experience and sharpened his approach to evidence and procedure.
Perez is licensed to practice in both California and Texas. Those dual jurisdictions reflect his ties to the Southwest and his early training in Texas. After years in federal positions he transitioned into private practice and established Hector Perez & Associates. In private practice he has drawn on government experience to advise clients on matters that intersect federal tax law and federal litigation.
Colleagues and former clients describe Perez as pragmatic in court and exacting in preparation. He blends the technical mindset of a tax attorney with the procedural instincts of a former federal prosecutor. That combination has informed the way he evaluates cases, approaches settlements and proceeds to trial when necessary.
He now practices at Hector Perez & Associates, drawing on his years in federal tax counsel and the United States Attorney’s Office to handle matters informed by those experiences.
