About Greg
Greg McLawsen built his legal foundation in the Pacific Northwest and the Midwest. He earned a B.A. in philosophy and psychology from the University of Washington in 2000. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Law in 2006.
He began his post-law school work in public interest and academic settings. In 2007 he worked as a law clerk for the Welfare Due Process Project at Nebraska Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest. While at Nebraska, he served as a legal research assistant and a teaching assistant in legal research and writing in 2008. That same year he practiced through the university’s immigration clinic as a student attorney, gaining hands-on experience in immigration matters. In 2009 he contributed to the Immigration Law and Practice treatise, writing on technical aspects of immigration law.
McLawsen moved into court-side work in 2010 when he served as a judicial law clerk for Kitsap County Superior Court. The clerkship added a state-court perspective to his background and deepened his familiarity with courtroom procedure and judicial decision-making. By 2012 he was practicing in Washington. He held a part-time position at Seifert Law Offices and took on the role of managing lawyer at Sound Immigration starting that year.
He maintains active admission in Washington and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The Washington State Bar licensed him in 2009, and he has remained an active member since. His bar and association work runs alongside his practice. He has held leadership posts in the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s Washington chapter, including positions on the Law Practice and Technology Committee and as chapter secretary. Within the Washington State Bar, he has served in the Solo and Small Practice Section, rising from chair-elect to chair in 2013–2014 and continuing in a leadership capacity thereafter. He has also been involved with local bar groups such as the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association and the Kitsap County Bar Association’s young lawyers division.
McLawsen’s career centers on immigration law. His resume shows steady movement between writing, clinic work, court experience and private practice. That variety informs how he handles cases: an emphasis on procedure, a familiarity with administrative filings, and experience that spans trial and appellate settings. He currently practices immigration law as managing lawyer at Sound Immigration, representing clients in immigration matters in Washington and in federal courts where appropriate.
