About Grant A.

Grant A. Toeppen is an attorney who built his career around estate planning and related areas of law. He earned his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2008, where his coursework included international law and estate planning. Those studies shaped the early contours of his practice and informed his understanding of both domestic and cross-border issues in family wealth matters.

After law school he entered private practice and by 2012 was working at Advance Planning, A Law Corporation. He has remained associated with that firm since then, practicing under its name and helping clients on planning matters. His time at the firm has coincided with changes in tax and trust law that affect how people plan their estates and transfer assets, and he has worked through those changes in client files and transactional work.

Toeppen is admitted to practice in California and in New York. He also holds a mediation certification from the Bar Association of San Francisco. That credential allows him to participate in and conduct settlement discussions and mediated sessions. It complements his planning work by giving him a practical route for resolving disputes that can arise around trusts, estates and family financial affairs.

His practice has emphasized advance planning. He handles wills, trusts and related documents, and he assists clients who need guidance on probate avoidance and structuring transfers. He has dealt with routine planning matters as well as questions that touch on international elements, reflecting his law school background. He has also participated in mediation when conflicts require facilitated negotiation rather than litigation.

Advance Planning, A Law Corporation maintains offices in Dublin and in Manteca. Toeppen serves clients through those offices and through the firm’s channels. His role involves drafting planning documents, advising on options for asset disposition and working with other advisors when tax or business issues overlap with estate matters.

Colleagues describe him as practical and detail-oriented in client work, preferring clear documents and straightforward explanations to complex legal jargon. He keeps current on statutory and regulatory developments that affect estate and trust administration. His current practice concentrates on estate and advance planning, probate-avoidance strategies and mediation of estate-related disputes.
