About Gordon
Gordon Carey earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1975 after completing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Oregon in 1972. He moved into practice at a time when federal courts and maritime work were prominent parts of the Pacific Northwest docket. His education set the foundation for a long career that spans state and federal admissions.
He is admitted to practice in Washington (since 1975) and Oregon (since 1977). He is also admitted to appear before the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those credentials reflect decades of courtroom work at multiple levels. They have allowed him to handle matters that reach beyond state trial courts and into federal and appellate forums.
Professional associations have been a steady part of his career. He is a proctor in the Maritime Law Association, a role that connects him to national discussions in admiralty and maritime law. He serves as a contributing author and editor for Oregon State Bar publications. He has been a member of the Multnomah Bar Association and the Oregon State Bar for many years. He also served on the OSB Continuing Legal Education Committee from 1992 to 1995, participating in the planning and delivery of educational programs for practitioners.
His record shows an interest in the overlap of maritime and federal law. Admission to the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court indicates experience with appeals and federal filings. His work with maritime organizations and bar publications points to regular engagement with admiralty subjects and legal scholarship. He has combined practice, writing, and committee service rather than pursuing a single, narrow path.
Carey works out of the Portland office. He contributes to professional literature and to bar-sponsored education while maintaining an active practice. Today he continues to represent clients in matters involving maritime and admiralty issues as well as federal and appellate litigation.
