About Glen Y.
Glen Y. Sato completed a liberal arts education at Wesleyan University, earning a B.A. in economics in 1981. He returned to California for graduate study and finished both a Juris Doctor at UCLA School of Law and an MBA at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1987. The combination of legal training and business study has shaped the way he approaches client matters.
After finishing his graduate degrees, Sato entered private practice. Over the years he rose through firm ranks and has served as a partner at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP. That role has required him to balance client counseling, transactional work and the management responsibilities partners typically assume.
As a partner, Sato has led deal teams and advised corporate clients on matters that intersect law and business. He has substantial experience supervising the preparation of documents, negotiating terms and coordinating among outside advisers. Colleagues describe him as someone who attends to detail and right-sizes legal responses to business objectives.
Sato is licensed to practice in California and has handled matters that require familiarity with state and federal rules applicable to corporate transactions. His undergraduate study in economics informs a practical, numbers-oriented view of negotiations and contract structure. The dual JD/MBA background also helps him translate legal concepts into language business leaders use.
Throughout his career Sato has worked on engagements that involve multiple parties and competing priorities. He has experience managing timelines, staffing assignments and client expectations on complex matters. In the partner role he has also mentored junior attorneys and overseen aspects of practice development and client service.
He currently practices in California at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, concentrating on corporate and transactional matters.
