About Gerard J.

Gerard J. Cedrone graduated from Brown University with an A.B. in economics in 2007 and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2011. Those academic years set a foundation of rigorous legal training and broad policy exposure. He moved quickly from classroom to clerkship, a path that shaped his early professional life.

Shortly after law school, Cedrone clerked for Judge Neil M. Gorsuch on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in 2014. That appellate experience exposed him to complex federal questions and lengthy opinion drafting. Two years later he served as a law clerk to Justice Elena Kagan at the U.S. Supreme Court in 2016. The Supreme Court clerkship sharpened his analytical skills and deepened his familiarity with high-stakes litigation and constitutional issues.

Cedrone joined Goodwin as an associate in 2017. At Goodwin he worked on matters that drew on his appellate background and his federal court experience. His case work includes appearances in multiple federal circuits and district courts. He holds admissions across a wide range of jurisdictions, including the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 9th, 10th, D.C., and Federal Circuits as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts, and to the U.S. District Courts for the District of Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and exacting in legal research and brief writing. He has moved between trial-level filings and appellate briefs, which gives him a practical sense of how issues evolve through the federal system. His clerkship background allows him to anticipate how judges and clerks are likely to parse arguments and evidence.

Cedrone has maintained active state bar memberships over the years. He joined the New Jersey bar in 2014 and the New York bar in 2015. He became a member of the Massachusetts bar in 2018 and those memberships remain current. These admissions support a practice that spans both state and federal forums.

Today he is listed at Goodwin Procter LLP. His practice continues to involve appellate work and federal litigation across multiple circuits and district courts. He concentrates his practice on appellate litigation and federal matters in which appellate strategy and precise briefing are central.
