About Gerald Norman

Gerald N. Jacobowitz is a senior partner at Jacobowitz & Gubits, LLP, a law firm based in Walden, New York. He has been practicing law in New York since 1959, specializing in business, environmental, municipal, and real estate law. Throughout his career, he has served as village and town attorney for various municipalities in the Hudson Valley region. Mr. Jacobowitz earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Colgate University in 1955.

He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He then obtained his Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law in 1958, serving as a John Ben Snow Root Tilden Scholar. Over the years, he has been instrumental in the successful completion of numerous projects for private clients, including the Rural Ridge subdivision, Harriman Business Park, Wind Ridge Village, Harriman Hills, Thruway Shopping Center, Walden View Apartments. He served as a member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association's Municipal Law Section from 1982, holding positions as secretary, second and first vice-chair, and chair from 1993 to 1995. He was also an original co-editor of the "Municipal Lawyer," the official publication of the section. Within the Orange County Bar Association, he has held roles as president, director, treasurer. Vice-president, and was the original co-editor of the "Orange County Lawyer," the association's official publication. Mr. Jacobowitz has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service. He was a founding director of the Orange County Pro-Bono Legal Services, Inc., served as a member of the Orange County Planning Board since 1997.

Was vice-chairman of the Orange County Charter Revision Commission from 1994 to 1996. He has also been a director of the Walden Federal Savings and Loan Association for forty-eight years and serves as a director of the Meyer and Lillian Jacobowitz Charitable Foundation. Since 2000, he has been a founding director and president of the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan. Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Jacobowitz has been recognized for his contributions to the legal profession and the community. In 2011, the Orange County Bar Association honored him for his 52 years of service during their 100th Annual Awards & Business Dinner Meeting.
