About Georgetta
Born and raised in Jamaica, Georgetta moved to the United States at the age of sixteen. In pursuit of higher education, she enrolled at the University of Miami, where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration. Her academic excellence was recognized when she was placed on the Provost Honor Roll. In 2000, Georgetta graduated from the Jacob D — Fuchsberg Touro Law Center with a Juris Doctorate. During her time in law school, she took on the role of editor for the International Law Review Journal. Her scholarly contributions included publishing an article titled "Organ Donation and Incompetents: Can They Consent?
A Comparative Analysis of American and Canadian Laws of Consent and Brain Death Determination." After successfully passing the Georgia Bar in 2000, Georgetta began her legal career at the City of Atlanta Public Defender's Office. This role provided her with inexperience in litigation and courtroom procedures. Following her tenure there, she established her own practice. That further hone her skills in various areas of law. In 2016, she joined Meriwether & Tharp, LLC, where she has focused exclusively on family law, representing clients in a range of family-related legal matters. Georgetta is admitted to practice in several courts, including the Georgia Superior Court, the Court of Appeals, and the Georgia Supreme Court.
Additionally, she is authorized to practice in the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Georgia. Her professionalism and dedication to her field have not gone unnoticed; she earned an AV Preeminent peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell and was named a Legal Elite by Georgia Trend Magazine in 2016, highlighting her standing among peers in the legal community. In addition to her legal practice, Georgetta has made significant contributions to legal education. She served as an associate professor at Morehouse College for ten years, where she taught aspiring legal professionals. Additionally, she spent one year teaching at Clark Atlanta University. Her commitment to fostering the next generation of lawyers extends to coaching high school mock trial teams and mentoring young attorneys through the State Bar of Georgia's Transition into Law Practice Program.
