About George S.
George S. Bellas began his legal path at Loyola University Chicago, where he completed a B.S. in psychology in 1971. He stayed on at Loyola University Chicago School of Law and earned his J.D. in 1973. Those early academic years set the stage for a practice threaded through both trial work and alternative dispute resolution.
Soon after law school he established the credentials needed for courtroom practice. He is admitted in Illinois and has been granted privileges in the federal system, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, where he is a member of the Federal Trial Bar. Those admissions reflect a career that has moved between state courts and the federal docket.
In 1995 he took on the role of senior partner at Bellas & Wachowski - Lawyers at Law. That position places him in the leadership of a firm that handles litigation at multiple levels. Over the years his work has involved bench and jury matters as well as the procedural demands of federal practice.
Bellas added mediation credentials to his record when he became a certified mediator through the Seventh Circuit Electronic Discovery Voluntary E-Mediation program. The certification signals experience in handling disputes that involve complex discovery issues and electronic evidence. It also indicates an ability to guide parties through a process that can reduce the time and cost of contested proceedings.
His professional affiliations span local, state and national organizations. He holds membership in the Illinois State Bar and the American Bar Association. He is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He joined the Public Justice Foundation in 2002 and the American Association for Justice in 1997. His ties to the Northwest Suburban Bar Association go back to 1978. Those memberships track a long-running engagement with the legal community.
Across more than four decades in practice, Bellas has balanced courtroom representation and mediated settlement processes. He continues to work at Bellas & Wachowski - Lawyers at Law, handling federal and state litigation, mediation and trial matters as part of the firm’s practice.
