About Gary L

Gary L Coulter began his legal training at The University of Georgia School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 1971. He later pursued advanced study and received an LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 1978. Those formative years combined a traditional state law education with post-graduate exposure to broader legal doctrines in New York.

His career in private practice started the same year he finished law school, when he joined Hatcher Stubbs, Land and Rothschild as a partner in 1971. That early partnership gave him front-line experience at a firm that handled a mix of transactional and litigation work common in regional practices of the time. A decade later he struck out on his own, founding Coulter & Associates in Columbus, Georgia in 1981. That move placed him at the center of local legal and business life.

In 1986 Coulter moved into corporate leadership as president of the George C. Woodruff Companies in Columbus. The role broadened his professional responsibilities beyond traditional lawyering into corporate management and oversight. In 1993 he entered into a private investment partnership with Malcolm Clifford Davenport. That chapter of his career involved business development and investment partnerships alongside his continuing legal work.

He formalized his practice again in 2001 as president and owner of Coulter and Associates PC. The firm has been the platform for his work since then. Over the decades his roles have ranged from firm partner to corporate president and independent practitioner. Those transitions reflect a career that crosses the practice of law and the business affairs that lawyers often advise on.

Coulter is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. That federal appellate admission complements his long-standing involvement in regional corporate matters and private investments. His experience touches on the practical side of business law, governance, and the operation of a private legal practice across several decades.

Now based at Coulter and Associates PC in Columbus, he maintains a practice that handles legal matters arising at the intersection of business and law, and that includes matters before the Eleventh Circuit.
