About Garrett

Garrett Knisley earned his law degree from Belmont University College of Law in 2014 after completing a bachelor’s degree at Middle Tennessee State University in 2009. Those academic years shaped his entry into the practice of law in Tennessee. He returned to his home state to build a legal career grounded in the communities where he studied.

He serves as an associate at Martin Heller Potempa & Sheppard. In that role he handles a variety of matters for clients, conducting legal research, preparing filings, and appearing in court when cases proceed to litigation. The record shows he applies classroom training to the practical work of case preparation, witness interviews, and motion practice. He works alongside more senior lawyers at the firm and contributes to case strategy and client communications.

Knisley is admitted to practice in Tennessee. He complements his firm work with professional memberships. He is a member of the Tennessee Association for Justice, the Nashville Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association. Those affiliations provide networking and continuing education opportunities. He attends bar-sponsored seminars and contributes to discussions among peers about evolving procedural and substantive law in the state.

Colleagues describe him as a steady presence in the office who takes assignments through the full lifecycle of a case. He spends substantial time drafting pleadings, preparing discovery requests, and briefing legal issues. He also prepares witnesses and participates in settlement discussions when those opportunities arise. His courtroom appearances reflect the routine responsibilities of an associate: arguing motions, examining witnesses, and presenting exhibits under senior supervision.

Outside the office he remains connected to the Nashville and greater Tennessee legal communities through local bar events and continuing legal education programs. Those activities keep him current on state rules and recent decisions. He continues to develop practical skills that support client representation and case management.

He practices law in Tennessee as an associate at Martin Heller Potempa & Sheppard, representing clients in matters handled by the firm.
