About G. Michael

G. Michael Brelje built a legal path that moves from local roots to federal courts. He earned his B.A. in Communication and Sport Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2003. He went on to receive his J.D. from Santa Barbara College of Law in 2008. Those credentials set the stage for a practice centered in California courtrooms.

Early in his career Brelje joined Grokenberger & Smith as a senior associate in 2010. He served there while becoming involved in the Santa Barbara legal community. That same year he became a member of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association and joined the William L. Gordon Inn of Court for 2010–2011. He later led the Santa Barbara Barristers as president in 2012, a role that kept him connected to newer attorneys and local bar programming.

In 2018 he moved to Rogers, Sheffield & Campbell, LLP as a senior lawyer. His time there expanded his experience in contested matters and courtroom practice. He also served on the Santa Barbara County Bar Association’s board of directors from 2016 to 2017, a post that combined administrative work with community outreach and member education.

Brelje joined Cappello & Noël LLP as an associate in 2022. His resume lists admissions to several federal forums: the United States District Court for the Central District of California, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, and membership in the Supreme Court of the United States. Those admissions allow him to appear in both state and federal venues and to handle a range of civil matters that reach higher courts.

Colleagues describe him as practical and steady in the courtroom. He has been a regular participant in local bar activities since 2010, balancing private practice with bar service and mentoring through the Barristers program. That community involvement reflects a practice anchored in the Santa Barbara legal scene while also reaching into broader California practice areas.

His trajectory shows a lawyer who has rotated through firm roles and bar leadership. He combines courtroom work, bar participation, and federal admissions. He is based at Cappello & Noël LLP and appears in both state and federal courts. He concentrates his current practice on litigation in California state and federal courts.
