About Fu-Mei Chao

Fu-Mei Chao Jiang built a layered academic foundation before entering the practice of law. She holds a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law. Earlier studies include a Master of Science in Business from the University of Baltimore, a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of Rhode Island, and a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language and Literature from National Taiwan University. Those degrees inform the way she approaches legal problems and client work.

Her path into practice emphasized research and cross-cultural communication. The library science training sharpened her research methods. The foreign language and business degrees helped shape how she communicates complex ideas to clients and opposing counsel. After law school she established herself in the Mid-Atlantic legal community and is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Chao Jiang maintains active memberships in several professional organizations. She is a member of the DC Bar Association, the Howard County Bar Association, the Maryland Association of Justice, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. These affiliations align her with both local bar networks and national immigration practitioners. She participates in bar activities and maintains connections in both Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Her practice combines legal research, client counseling, and courtroom work. Drawing on her immigration association membership, she handles immigration matters alongside civil cases arising in local courts. Clients include individuals and families seeking representation in administrative proceedings and civil disputes in the region. She prepares filings, represents clients before agencies and tribunals, and handles litigation when cases move into court.

Colleagues describe her work as methodical and detail-oriented. She uses her background in research to develop case strategies and to prepare evidence. Language skills provide an advantage when clients speak multiple languages or when documents require careful translation and cultural context. She also draws on business training when addressing regulatory and transactional issues that intersect with immigration or civil claims.

Chao Jiang practices from her own firm, the Law Office of Fu-Mei Chao Jiang, serving clients in Maryland and the District of Columbia. She continues to engage with local bar groups and national immigration networks while representing clients in administrative and judicial settings. She currently practices immigration and civil matters in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
