About Frederik
Frederik Stig-Nielsen earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, concentrating in creative writing, from the University of Montana, graduating in 2009. He went on to law school at Lewis & Clark Law School and received his J.D. in 2013. His academic background combines literary training with legal study, and he has said that careful writing and attention to detail inform the way he approaches legal work.
He launched his independent practice in 2015, operating as Frederik F Stig-Nielsen, PLLC. That venture gave him early experience running a law office and managing client matters from intake through resolution. In 2017 he took a staff lawyer position at the Jesse L Williams Law & Advocacy Center, where he worked for a period handling advocacy and casework in a staffed, mission-driven setting. The move expanded his exposure to structured advocacy and the demands of working within an established legal organization.
In 2020 Stig-Nielsen became a partner at Mas/Stig-Nielsen, PLLC. The change marked a return to a private practice model but within a partnership structure. As partner he has shared responsibility for case strategy, client counseling, and the administrative tasks that come with running a law firm. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation and straightforward in client communications.
Across his roles—solo practitioner, staff lawyer, and partner—Stig-Nielsen has handled a mix of client-facing and behind-the-scenes work. He has experience drafting pleadings, conducting legal research, and representing clients in court and in negotiation. That breadth of tasks reflects the practical demands of small-firm practice, where attorneys often carry both litigation responsibilities and office management duties.
Those who have worked with him note a steady, workmanlike approach. He tends to break problems into concrete steps and to set clear expectations with clients. He also draws on his background in creative writing when preparing written arguments and motions, treating language as a tool for persuasion rather than ornament.
Stig-Nielsen lives by a pragmatic view of legal work. He emphasizes clear communication, careful preparation, and durable solutions for clients. He currently practices at Mas/Stig-Nielsen, PLLC, handling client representation and advocacy in his firm’s matters.
