About Frederick J.

Frederick J. Schlosser built his path to law from an early interest in numbers and systems. He earned a B.A. in Finance from the University of Notre Dame in 1985 and continued his studies at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where he received his J.D. in 1992. Those degrees set the stage for a career that has combined courtroom work, appellate practice, and membership in several professional organizations.

After law school Schlosser entered practice in Illinois and secured admission to multiple federal and state courts. He is admitted to practice in Illinois, before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Over the years he has taken cases at different levels of the federal and state systems, representing clients in trials and on appeal.

Schlosser became a partner at Gates, Wise, Schlosser & Goebel. In that role he shares responsibility for case strategy, client counseling, and courtroom litigation. His work at the firm has included criminal defense and civil trial matters. He has handled jury trials, preliminary hearings, and appellate briefs. The record shows a steady practice in contested proceedings that require close attention to evidentiary and procedural detail.

Outside the courtroom he has maintained active ties to legal communities. He holds membership in the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Sangamon County Bar Association, Illinois Lawyers for Criminal Justice, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. Those affiliations place him among peers who concentrate on trial work and criminal defense issues.

Colleagues describe Schlosser as methodical and pragmatic in his approach to litigation. He prepares cases for trial and for appeal, giving equal weight to factual development and legal argument. His finance background occasionally informs complex matters involving financial records, and he has experience explaining technical material to juries and judges.

He has balanced courtroom practice with ongoing participation in bar groups that address trial practice and criminal justice. He continues to accept cases that require representation in both state and federal forums. He currently practices at Gates, Wise, Schlosser & Goebel, handling trial and appellate matters in state and federal courts.
