Franklin Wright Nelson is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1990. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Nelson earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1988. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of Southern California, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1983. During his time at USC Gould, he was actively involved in student publications, serving as Executive Editor of the Computer Law Journal and Publications Editor of the Major Tax Planning Journal.
Mr. Nelson concentrates his practice in immigration law, representing individuals and businesses in matters involving employment-based immigration, family-based immigration, and naturalization. He has experience in all stages of immigration proceedings, including initial case evaluation, preparation and filing of petitions and applications, responses to requests for evidence, and representation in hearings before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Executive Office for Immigration Review. His practice also encompasses appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals and federal courts.
Throughout his career, Mr. Nelson has handled cases in various courts, including the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles, the United States District Court for the Central District of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He has represented clients in high-profile cases, including serving as co-counsel in the landmark Supreme Court case INS v. Yang, 519 U.S. 26 (1996), which addressed the issue of deportation of lawful permanent residents.
Mr. Nelson is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the California Lawyers Association. In 2016, he was disciplined by the State Bar of California for failing to complete his mandatory continuing legal education requirements in 2013. He has since complied with the necessary requirements and his license remains in good standing. Mr. Nelson is fluent in English and Mandarin, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
