About Francis X.

Francis X. Hathaway left school with a degree in English and a law degree within a few years. He earned a B.A. in English from the University of Detroit Mercy and completed his J.D. at Michigan State University in 2000. The combination of humanities training and legal education shaped an approach that favors clear writing and careful analysis.

Soon after law school he gained admission to practice and has been a member in good standing since 2001. That standing covers state and federal admissions. He is authorized to appear in Michigan courts and in the federal courts for both the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. He is also admitted to the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.

Early in his career Hathaway worked on matters that required appearances in bankruptcy court and federal forums. Those early docket appearances gave him routine exposure to bankruptcy procedure, creditor-debtor issues and related federal practice. Over time he handled both contested hearings and negotiated resolutions outside the courtroom. He has continued to build that body of work through repeated filings and appearances in the courts where he is admitted.

Hathaway practices from Hathaway Law Center PLC. The firm serves as his primary office base and the platform from which he files pleadings and takes matters to hearing. He manages client cases, prepares filings and handles litigation and insolvency-related proceedings when cases require it. His practice reflects the jurisdictions where he maintains admission and the types of matters those courts typically handle.

Colleagues and clients describe him as deliberate in his preparation. He favors written clarity and steady courtroom procedure over theatrical argument. That style is suited to bankruptcy work and to the more structured environment of federal practice, where rules and timelines shape case strategy.

He remains active in the bar and in the courts where he practices. His record shows continuous membership in good standing since 2001. As of 2026 he continues to handle bankruptcy and federal court matters through Hathaway Law Center PLC, representing clients in filings, hearings and related negotiations.
