About Frances A.

Frances A. DeThomas earned her J.D. from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in 1996. She followed law school with bar admissions that include New York and the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court. Her legal training in the mid-1990s set the stage for a career centered in Westchester County and the surrounding region.

She joined Tyre & DeThomas, P.C. early in her career and became a principal lawyer in 1999. That role put her in a position to shape case strategy and guide younger attorneys. Over the years she has handled litigation and courtroom work as well as client counseling and negotiation. Colleagues describe her as steady under pressure and attentive to procedural detail.

Much of her professional involvement has been tied to family law. She has served on executive committees that address family law issues at both the county and state bar levels. Those committee roles have given her exposure to reforms, rule changes, and continuing legal education programs that affect family law practice in New York. She has also worked on matters that counsel often encounter in domestic relations practice, including contested proceedings and negotiated settlements.

Her bar association activity is longstanding. She has been a member of the New York State Bar Association since 1999 and has served on its Family Law Section executive committee. Since 1999 she has also belonged to the Westchester Women’s Bar Association and has served as its vice president. In 2015 she joined the Westchester County Bar Association and has participated on its Family Law Section executive committee. Those roles reflect steady involvement in local and statewide professional circles rather than ceremonial membership.

At Tyre & DeThomas, P.C., she has continued to manage a caseload while participating in bar programs and local legal initiatives. Her day-to-day work combines courtroom appearances, client conferences, drafting, and settlement discussions. She maintains an office presence in Westchester County and remains active in the professional associations that touch family law practice.

She currently practices family law at Tyre & DeThomas, PC.
