About Fatima
Fatima Skimin built a legal path that crosses continents and legal systems. She arrived in the United States after training in North Africa and France. Her academic record mixes civil law study in French-speaking institutions with American graduate degrees.
She earned a Licence en droit public (public law) from Hassan II University, School of Law and a D.E.A. in Fundamental Private Law from the University of Montpellier School of Law. She then completed an LL.M. in Comparative Law at Pennsylvania State University - Dickinson School of Law before receiving her J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. Those degrees gave her a comparative perspective on litigation, procedure and statutory interpretation.
Skimin holds licenses to practice in Louisiana and Indiana. She is also admitted in Florida, but only for Immigration and Naturalization Law matters. After law school she moved into private practice. She established the Law Offices of Fatima A. Skimin, LLC and manages the firm’s day-to-day work. Her practice reflects both her international training and the practical demands of clients in state and federal matters.
Her memberships point to the mix of work she handles. She belongs to the Louisiana State Bar Association and to the American Immigration Lawyers Association. She is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers, which aligns with the consumer bankruptcy filings and related counseling that appear in her caseload. Those affiliations keep her connected to developments in immigration rules, bankruptcy practice and ethics.
Community service is part of her weekly routine. Skimin volunteers as a lawyer at the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic, counseling clients who might otherwise go without legal help. That volunteer work complements the firm’s fee-based practice and reflects a practical approach to access to justice.
Colleagues describe her as detail-oriented and methodical in courtroom work and client intake. She handles client interviews, prepares pleadings, and represents people before immigration bodies and bankruptcy courts. Her international education often helps when cases touch on foreign law or cross-border documents.
She practices through the Law Offices of Fatima A. Skimin, LLC and maintains memberships in professional organizations that align with immigration and consumer bankruptcy practice. She currently handles immigration, consumer bankruptcy and related matters at her firm.
