About Fabian

Fabian Nehrbass draws on a scientific background and legal training to handle complex patent matters. He began his academic path at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then moved to Louisiana for graduate study and law. At the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University, he completed both a Juris Doctor and a Doctor of Civil Law.

Those credentials underpin a practice that spans both prosecution and litigation. Nehrbass is admitted to the Louisiana bar and holds admission to the United States District Courts for the Middle, Western, and Eastern Districts of Louisiana. He also is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

His background in biology shapes how he approaches patent work. He evaluates technical disclosure and prepares patent applications that aim to secure protection for inventions rooted in the life sciences. When disputes arise, he has stepped into federal court proceedings and appellate matters where questions of patent validity and enforcement are at issue.

Nehrbass practices at Garvey, Smith & Nehrbass, Patent Lawyers, L.L.C., a firm that concentrates on intellectual property. At the firm he prepares and prosecutes patent applications, drafts opinions, and engages in contested proceedings before administrative bodies and courts. He represents clients that include inventors and companies across a range of technical fields.

Colleagues describe his approach as methodical. He combines detailed review of prior art with careful claim drafting. That combination is aimed at producing patents that can withstand close examination while still protecting core inventive concepts. He also prepares opinions on patentability, infringement, and validity, and participates in litigation strategy when cases move to court.

Outside the courtroom and the patent office, Nehrbass’s education in biology allows him to translate scientific concepts into patentable claims. He communicates complex ideas in plain terms to clients and works with inventors to refine disclosures so they meet legal requirements. He maintains active registration before federal courts and the USPTO and continues to represent clients in patent prosecution and related federal matters.
