About F. Snyder

F. Snyder Gokey combines a legal education and an accounting background. He earned a J.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1982 after completing a Bachelor of Science in Accounting at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1979. Those years set the groundwork for a career that has moved between tax litigation, private practice and immigration work.

He began his career in government. In 1982 he joined the U.S. Department of Justice as a trial lawyer in the Tax Division. That role placed him in federal litigation early on and exposed him to complex tax issues and courtroom procedures. He moved into private practice in 1986, joining the Vogel Law Office where he continued to handle matters that drew on his tax and accounting training.

Gokey opened his own practice in 2011. The Gokey Immigration Law Office reflects a shift in emphasis toward immigration law, though his earlier experience remains part of his approach to cases. He has maintained a presence in both Minnesota and North Dakota across his career and runs his office from that regional base.

His professional affiliations trace a steady line through both legal and accounting circles. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and its Minnesota/Dakotas chapter since 2004. He has been affiliated with the North Dakota Society of Certified Public Accountants since 1984. He also maintains memberships in the North Dakota State Bar Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association, and he holds active bar memberships in both Minnesota and North Dakota.

Those credentials shape how he handles client matters. His tax litigation background and accounting training inform case preparation, document review and the handling of financial records that often arise in immigration and related legal issues. Colleagues and clients note the practical orientation he brings from years of courtroom work and private practice.

Over the years he has balanced courtroom work, client counseling and the administrative aspects of running a small law office. He oversees case strategy, filings and client intake at his firm and continues to draw on prior government experience when assessing legal risk and procedural options.

He is currently in private practice at the Gokey Immigration Law Office, where he focuses on immigration matters while maintaining active bar memberships in Minnesota and North Dakota.
