About Eugenie D.
Eugenie D. Rivers built a legal path that links corporate law and business leadership. She earned a B.A. in economics from California State University, Sacramento in 1982 and a J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law in 1991. Those early years set the stage for a practice that often sits at the intersection of law and commerce.
She began her legal career in 1991 as an associate at Stoel Rives LLP. Over the next decade she moved into firm partnership and in 2001 became a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP. By 2003 she had founded Rivers Business Law, Inc., serving as principal and shaping a practice aimed at advising business owners and managers on the legal aspects of running a company.
Rivers has alternated between firm practice and in-house roles. In 2007 she took on the role of general counsel at Adaptis, where she handled contract, compliance and corporate governance matters for a technology services company. In 2011 she held two positions: corporate counsel at Eastside Commercial Bank and lawyer at Advocates Law Group. Those roles reflected a mix of regulatory work, transactional matters and client advisement that became a throughline in her career.
Her association with Wong Fleming in Bellevue began in an of counsel capacity in 2013. That role allowed her to draw on years of experience advising small and medium-sized businesses while also supporting litigation and transactional teams. The of counsel title has often suited lawyers who split time between client counseling and law firm collaboration.
Outside of direct legal practice Rivers has been active in organizations that connect lawyers and business leaders. She has been a member of TENS (The Executive Network of Seattle) since 2005 and belongs to AWARE, the Association of Women Lawyers with Real Experience, since 2004. She joined the Washington State Bar, the King County Bar Association and the Washington Bar Association in 1991 and has maintained those memberships. Earlier in her career she served on boards and committees for groups such as the Northwest Entrepreneur Network and Women Business Owners, where she served as general counsel from 2003 to 2004.
Her work has centered on corporate governance, contracts and counseling business clients through growth and regulatory change. She brings experience from both law firms and in-house departments to client issues. She currently practices as of counsel at Wong Fleming in Bellevue, handling business law and corporate matters for companies and owners.
