About Esteban Herrera
Esteban Herrera Jr. trained first as an engineer and then as a lawyer. He earned a B.S. in civil engineering in 1986, followed by an M.S. in environmental engineering in 1988. He completed his Juris Doctor at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1991.
He began moving between technical and legal work early in his career. That combination of credentials led him into cases and matters where technical detail matters. Over time he established himself at Kean Miller LLP, where he serves as a partner. His role at the firm has involved advising clients and handling litigation that touches on technical, regulatory, and construction-related issues.
Herrera’s engineering background informs how he approaches legal problems. He often reads complex reports and specifications without having to rely only on outside experts. That ability does not replace expert analysis, but it helps him question assumptions, frame discovery, and evaluate technical testimony. His memberships in the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute indicate a practice that includes defense-side representation, particularly where engineering and environmental questions arise.
He maintains active involvement in bar and local organizations. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association, and the Louisiana State Bar. Those affiliations keep him plugged into continuing education and local professional networks. Outside the legal and engineering communities he has served his parish and local schools. He is a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and has served as president of the Our Lady of Mercy School Board. He has also been active with the Men’s Club at the school and volunteers at career days for Glen Oaks Middle Magnet School and Our Lady of Mercy School.
Colleagues describe him as someone who blends technical literacy with courtroom experience. He has handled matters where engineering judgment, regulatory standards, and legal strategy intersect. At Kean Miller he continues to represent clients in matters that require both technical understanding and legal analysis. His current practice focuses on matters at the intersection of engineering, environmental regulation, construction, and defense-side litigation.
