About Esra
Esra Gules-Guctas trained in two countries and across several legal systems. She earned her LL.B. from Istanbul University School of Law in 1995. She later completed a Master of Arts in Political Science at Brooklyn College in 2003 and an LL.M. at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2006. She also holds a Certificate of Specialization from Marmara University School of Law, concentrating on human rights and European Union law.
Her earliest listed legal work was as an associate at Sanli Karabiyik Law Offices in 2000. She moved to the United States and by 2003 was an associate at Akin and Smith, LLC. That mix of practice on both sides of the Atlantic gave her early exposure to comparative legal issues and to clients with cross-border concerns.
Gules-Guctas’ memberships reflect that international thread. She is a member of the Istanbul Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association. She also belongs to local groups including the Albany County Bar Association and the Capital District Women’s Bar Association, and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Those affiliations suggest an ongoing engagement with both local and broader professional communities.
Her academic work and certification point to interests in human rights and European Union law. The LL.M. from Cardozo broadened her training in U.S. law after an initial legal education in Turkey. The certificate from Marmara University formally acknowledges specialized study in human rights and EU legal frameworks. Coupled with her graduate degree in political science, her background bridges legal doctrine, international norms and the political context that often shapes immigration matters.
Gules-Guctas’ career path shows transitions from private practice in Turkey to practice in the United States, followed by involvement in immigration-related professional circles. She has combined courtroom and advisory roles, and has worked for law offices in Istanbul as well as firms in New York. Her work history and memberships indicate familiarity with both Turkish and New York legal environments.
She practices in Albany as an immigration lawyer. She currently practices immigration law in Albany.
