Ernest Scott Kinney was a licensed attorney in California, admitted to the State Bar in 2000 under license number 207234. He maintained an active license until his passing in 2008. Mr. Kinney was the founder and sole practitioner at the Ernest S. Kinney Law Corporation, located in Fresno, California.
His practice primarily focused on criminal defense, representing clients in various serious criminal cases, including murder, rape, robbery, arson, assault, DUI, gang, and drug offenses. He also handled personal injury cases, particularly those involving accidents. His legal services encompassed all stages of litigation, from initial case evaluation and discovery to trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. Mr. Kinney was admitted to practice before the California Supreme Court, the California Courts of Appeal, and the U.S.
District Court for the Eastern District of California. He began his legal career at the Fresno County Public Defender’s Office, where he served for two and a half years before establishing his own firm. Throughout his career, he handled over 3,000 criminal cases and approximately 15 personal injury cases. Mr. Kinney was a member of the California State Bar and the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice.
He was also known for his community involvement, providing generous scholarship support to the San Joaquin College of Law from 1992 until his death in 2008. He was survived by his wife, two children, and several grandchildren. Mr. Kinney passed away on May 3, 2008, after a battle with leukemia. His contributions to the legal community and his clients' lives are remembered fondly.
