About Ernest James
Ernest James Ciccotelli studied law at Vermont Law School, earning his Juris Doctor in 1998. He arrived at the bar after years of legal study and early courtroom observation. The law school years shaped his approach to practice — careful, methodical and attuned to procedure.
He is admitted to practice in Vermont and New Hampshire and is also admitted to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court. Those credentials reflect a career spent largely in New England courts. Colleagues and opposing counsel have encountered him in state and federal dockets across the region.
After graduating in 1998, he moved into practice that has included trial and appellate work. His courtroom appearances span a range of matters, and he has handled filings and arguments in both trial courts and appellate panels. Over time he developed a practice rhythm that balances preparation for trial with the demands of appellate briefing and oral argument.
Clients have relied on him for representation that requires attention to procedural detail and an ability to present complex legal points clearly. He has worked on matters requiring layered legal research, careful drafting of pleadings, and advocacy before judges and panels. Admission to the nation’s highest court is one formal marker of the scope of his credentialing, though the bulk of his caseload has been in New England tribunals.
Outside the courtroom he has maintained the paperwork and court filings that sustain litigation. He prepares briefs, handles motions, and manages case calendars. He often works with local counsel when matters cross state lines or when federal venue issues arise.
Ciccotelli’s background is rooted in Vermont legal education and New England practice. He blends that local grounding with the procedural familiarity needed for appellate work. He remains active in practice and continues to accept engagements that involve contested litigation and appellate proceedings.
He currently represents clients in litigation and appellate matters across Vermont and New Hampshire.
